The crime statistics of the Victoria State is collected, analysed and published by Crime Statistics Agency (CSA), independent of Victoria Police which also publish the statistics prepared by the CSA. The CSA aims to provide an efficient and transparent information service to assist and inform policy makers, researchers and the Victorian public. The legal basis for the Crime Statistics Agency is the Crime Statistics Act 2014, which provides for the publication and release of crime statistics, research into crime trends, and the employment of a Chief Statistician for that purpose.
The digital form of the data is easily found by google search which will direct us to the Victoria Police website where digital statistics is available in pdf. and eBook versions, and where a link to the CSA page is easily found. On the CSA website, the latest crime statistics and the historical data processed by postcodes and by local governmental areas can be downloaded in excel version and can also be explored an interactive Crime by Location Tool.
The statistics can be downloaded directly online without filling any forms or paying.
About the City:
There is no rigorous governmental entity called the city government of Melbourne. Melbourne is the capital city in the Australian state of Victoria. Melbourne consists of 31 municipalities. The governance of Melbourne is split between the government of Victoria and the 26 cities and five shires which comprise the metropolitan area. There is no ceremonial or political head of Melbourne; however, the Lord Mayor of the City of Melbourne often fulfils such a role as a first amongst equals, particularly when interstate or overseas.
The local councils are responsible for providing the functions set out in the Local Government Act 1989 such as urban planning and waste management. Most other government services are provided or regulated by the Victorian state government, which governs from Parliament House in Spring Street. These include services which are associated with local government in other countries and include public transport, main roads, traffic control, policing, education above preschool level, health and planning of major infrastructure projects. The state government retains the right to override certain local government decisions, including urban planning, and Melburnian issues often feature prominently in state election.
