Real-time information about major municipal-run or commissioned transit services (buses, subway, rail, tram etc). Real-time transit information means things like the location of actual services (individual buses and trains, etc)

Comments

The data is provided by the The Public Transport Victoria and updated on a weekly basis to account for constructions, closures and upgrade works. The current file is an application programming interface (API), hence might not make any sense to non-programmers. However, the PDF file contains all the information programmers might need to tap into the real time transit data provided.

There is also a data set which provides static timetable data and geographic information in the The General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) format. It contains scheduled information for all metropolitan and regional trains, all metropolitan and regional bus (including coach) and all metropolitan tram services in Victoria.

Unfortunately, the information is not exclusively for the city of Melbourne alone but on a larger metropolitan scale.

Good analysis, the API is relevant for this dataset
