General information: Since 2017, Shanghai has established the government data service platform https://www.datashanghai.gov.cn. Some of the datasets are publicly available and others are shown on the website but you need to apply for it. To applly for the dataset, you first need to past the real-name verification, which requires a Chinese citizen identification card number, Chinese bank account number and a Chinese cell phone number. Fortunately, as a Chinese, I had all of those.

This dataset of food safety inspection is publicly available, there is no need to apply. The dataset has been updated monthly since March. 2017.

A weird part of this data set is worth mentioning, as, from the description of the dataset, there are 16 categories of data from this dataset, but from the excel form that is available to download, there are only 9 categories. Including the number of inspection, the result of inspection and the license number of the food being inspected. There are other datasets that is related to food safety inscription, but are not publicly available, up to now, my application has not been approved, those datasets include the Licensing number of each firm engaging in food industries, the record of canceling licensing for unqualified firms.

However, all those types of information are not available as datasets, but they can be searched from the online platform by the Shanghai Municipal Food and Drug Administration.
