Medellin / Air Quality / 2018
Data on air quality (e.g. levels of major pollutants) on a granular basis - that is at least broken down by month (preferably by day). Geographic breakdown (e.g. by grid point) would be nice but is not required.

When looking for Air quality data, we came across interesting information on the citizens involvement in OpenData questions. We found blog articles concerning a citizens’ initiative to celebrate the international Open Data day (on March 4th of this year), organized by the collective “Datos Abiertos Medellin” and supported by the Open Knowledge Foundation to think the air quality subject. The event was structured around an exercise concerning bad air quality in the city, and the need for inhabitants to obtain openly licensed data produced by the monitoring sensors installed around the city. However, if the reports concerning this day describe their struggle to access information (considering that a site to visualize sensors information exist, but does not provide accessibility to extract the data), the information obtained is not made public. In the end, we could only find one openly downloadable dataset extracted from the sensors of the SIATA system, made available by the site Datos Abiertos Gobierno Digital Colombia for the year 2016 (https://www.datos.gov.co/Ambiente-y-Desarrollo-Sostenible/INMISIONES-DATOS-DE-CONTAMINANTES-Y-CLIMATOL-GICOS/v3ny-6yj9/data). Considering that the Open Knowledge foundation’s National Open Data barometer for Colombia has kept the data available on the SIATA system website (https://www.siata.gov.co/siata_nuevo/), we have decided to keep this information in our dataset considering that is was the most informative one (even though it is not downloadable).
